diamater size for return line?
what size pvc should i use if im using a mag 5 for my return pump from my sump. I'm going to have a 1 inch drain from my 24g and was thinking 1/2 inch for the return. would this be correct?

I'd probably go with 3/4" but 1/2" would probably be ok....

How long will your return line be and how much flow do you want through it?
If you want max flow use 1 1/4 pipe. Just to give you some numbers say you have 4 feet vertical pipe 1 foot horizontal and 4 90 degree elbows. Using the flow calculator here on rc It does not go down to 1/2 inch pipe, but with 3/4 you get 266 gph 1 inch gives you 291 gph 1 1/4 moves you up to 302 gph So how much flow do you want?
