Buying a Skimmer am I crazy????????
I am considering a 2 skimmers and would like this to be a one time purchase that will handle my tank even when the tank is full of corals and fish. The tank is a 135G and I would like to think of this as if the tank had a heavy Bio Load. I would like your toughts on the 2 skimmers and if I am overdoing it to put it lightly.
Euro Reef RS 180 or a Tunzi Comline DOC 9015. Who know anything about them from use or friends? Also this is the largest single purchase outside of the tank and lights, am I crazy for spending around $450 on this? I do not want to spend 1/2 that and just regret it in 6 months. Please let me know what you think. Thanks for lending me your opinion and expertise. John

The Euro-Reef is a very good skimmer, imo.

To me two skimmers would be over kill. I'd just get one larger skimmer than two small. I dont know much about the euroreef's personally. If it were my tank i'd be looking at the Octopus skimmer's or the ASM's. Or if your loaded you could always check out a bubble king

Not loaded.
It is a one or the other decision. Either of the aboved mentioned are certainly big enough for a 135G with a large bio load. I think I am looking for advice if this much money in a protein skimmer is really a good investment at $450 or would my money be better spent on other items. Already invested in lighting and sump/refug. but still running a prizm skimmer that is undersized and not all that effective. Am I missing something that would be an even better investment like the eco aqualizer that everyone is raving about. Just kidding on the Aqualizer

I have heard from others who have tanks 200 or plus the turboflotor shorty is GREAT. I have the turboflotr for my 75 and know of someone who ran 215 on the same unit for 6 months with a light bioload. If that is something you would consider then it may save you money as they are only 250 or so. Just another thought to add to your confusion

I would suggest an octypus, it'll save you a hundred or two and do very well on a tank that size.

I second that!! I have owned ASM and other skimmers and Deltec is they was to go, if you can swing the cost, you will never need to look at an upgrade in the future. And it will hold its value if you ever want to sell it. |

I would get the Euro Reef out of your picks. I ran a ASM G-3(cost under $300) on a 180 gal with great results.

Yeah, from what I've read, if you are going to splurge on any one piece of equipment, the skimmer is the place to do it.

Ya, a good skimmer can make such a huge impact on a tank i really dont suggest, as I did in the past cheap out on equipment like a skimmer. I thought people were crazy spending money like that until i got so fed up with the junk i was buying i spent it on some deltec equipment and my tank looks 10x better, and more stable parameters.
