How old is your tang?

Just curious how long have people kept their tangs?

What kind of tang do you have, and hold old is it?

I had my sailfin for over 12 years when I gave him away, he outgrew my 180 and gave him to Jeff of Jeff's exotic fish. If he is still alive he would be at least 15 years old.

wow great success stories. I have had my sailfin and yellow tang for 5 years. All the other 11 tangs I have had for over two years. Quite a few of them I got from a fellow reefer who had them for over 4 yrs. So most of mine have been going for quite awhile.

Good job all of U!
how about sisting the tank size and type of setup alongside the fish sp. and size?
for example:
5 inch yellow tang for 5 years in a 250 g sps reef.
The fishes history (how ald it actually is) is also interesting. This would be not just qurious, but informative, giving people an idea of what 2 expect in their tanks.

115g tank (4ft) - spare me the gasps

The tomini grew from a puny 2" paper thin baby to a nice 4-5 inches. The powder blue has only grown about an inch or so in the year. He was about 3-4" already when I bought him.

They are the only two rock picking fish in the tank. Everything else is a planktivore.

Here's a recent shot of my 15 yr. old tang cruising with my muelleri CBB. He spent most of his life in a 180g tank that was never overcrowded & he was always the only tang. He's never been aggresive & has ignored every tank mate, other than to make sure they know he's in charge of the neighborhood.
Most of his diet has consisted of Formula frozen foods.
