what is tds meter do?

what are thease tds meters for your ro unit.and what do they do?thanks

It measure the total disolved solids (tds). Their function on an ro unit is to:
Measure tds going into the system
Measure tds going out of the system
Lets you know if the unit is working
Lets you know when the filters are ready to be changed

They are used to determine how well your RO or RO/DI system is working and when to change the membrane and DI cartridge.
A TDS meter basically measures the electrical conductivity of your water. Pure water is almost non electrically conductive, its the contaminants in it that conduct electricity. The purer the water the lower the TDS readings.
A good handheld TDS meter is an invaluable tool that can be used for years if kept clean and capped. Inline meters are not as good a choice but do make good indicators on when to test with a more accurate handheld device.
