Excessive Algae Growth

I recently started a 55 gal reef tank. It has been thriving - crocea clam, acro frags, zoos, leather, ect. I used to run a MH + T5 with 20k bulbs, and it grew a little bit of algae, but it was nothing that my cleaners couldn't handle. I am now running a 560W outer orbit MH + PC setup that contains 10k bulbs. I have hair algae that is growing like mad, especially on the sand bed. Does it collect bubbles or does it create bubbles as it grows? It gets so bubbly that it will float to the surface in thick layers and even contain some sand. Is there anything I can do to make this stop? Is all this algae taking away vital nutrients that my corals need? Is there anything beneficial about it beside providing plenty of food for my yellow tang, snails, and zebra urchin? Any advice will be appreciated.

I've had a 30 gal saltwater for over 6 years now running power compacts and have never had such a problem. Metal Halides are new to me and I'm assuming that they just grow a lot more algae.

More light more algea, so you will have to keep your nutrient level down when using brighter lights such as Halide, I reccomend using a phosphate remover to lower your phosphate and make sure your skimmer is working overtime

I had the same problem until I started using R.O. water only to top off my tank phosphate sponge may also help or try a lawnmower blenny.
