Did some chaeto pruning today, didn't realize how big it has gotten. If anyone needs some in the south florida area, lemme know, i'll give you some for free. It grows pretty fast. Just threw out this bucket full of it.

Great thread! I just bought this exact tank and have been admiring your work. Can you say a bit more about your luck keeping the bulkheads from dripping? Did you just have to tighten them up, or re-align the return/drain lines? Any particular pain-in-the neck about this tank that stands out the most? Thanks!!

Oh and also awesome tank!

I especially love the stand and canopy you designed. Did you ever finish the plans for the canopy that you were going to send to the other people at the beginning of the thread? I plan on building one myself. Thanks in advance!

Great tank! I've really enjoyed looking at all the pictures and reading this thread. How much flow do you have now and are the pumps on all the time, or is there a wavemaker somewhere? What kind of backup do you have in case of blackout?

Well this part was a pain. What i had to do was make the hole where the bulkhead went through the wood bigger. Tank was filled halfway so didn't want to empty it. So i had to do it from the bottom, took a jigsaw and dremel and started making the hole bigger, carefully not hitting the bottom of the tank glass. Also had to cover the sump up because i didnt want all the saw dust going in there. Then i was able to tighten it a little more. I also made the return pipe a little longer, i think i cut it to short which was pulling on the bulkhead a bit making it not sit in the hole properly. And now no leaks. But lesson learned, make a much bigger hole where the plumbing goes through the wood :P.

Really nothing about this tank that's a pain, everything seems to be good, the seals, the overflow, etc. Had a little problem with some algae but ended up changing my chaeto bulb to a 6500k one, and getting much better, faster growth. Also added the 2nd phosban reactor and my sand is white, knock on wood .

Thanks jeff,

Well really not a mod, i just took off the new little front cover that the koralias come with. The one the makes them have more direct flow. Seemed to just reduce it. O and yea i'll post the canopy designs up

Glad you like. Flow wise, I have the sureflow mod on a mj1200, which they say puts out 2100gph. K4, 1200gph, and a K1 at 400 gph, which i think is way overrated but just using the numbers. And a return pump which does after headloss i'll just say 350gph. Thats a 45x turnover rate. Pumps are ran 24/7, Would use a wavemaker, but the koralias i hear can't be run on one, and its hit or miss with MJ mods. No backup right now in case of a blackout, i'm working on that. Might get a ups to run a powerhead or two and some bubbles.

Heres the drawings, wish i could put them in the first page somehow, o well. These were designed in autocad. All dimensions are in inches. In the stand drawing, where it says 31, it should say 30, Making the 9" dimensions now 9.5. I designed it to take into account the actual sizing of wood. Like a 1x10" is actually like 3/4" x 9.5".

And the canopy
The canopy was put together using pocket holes. It's a little tool used to join to pieces of wood side by side making is appear like one whole piece. I like it a lot and its a lot cheaper than a biscuit tool.

Heres how i what i'm talking about with the leaky bulkhead..

Had to cut around the hole to fit the wrench in, lol its not pretty but who sees that

Heres what the t5s look like...

the right is the front of the tank.
right to left:
Actinic+
SuperActinic
Aquablue SP
Pro Color
Aquablue SP
SunPro

Will probably end up changing an aquablue and the sunpro with some blue +, want a bluer look.

Saw some of these guys at the LFS, picked a few up to add to my snails..
