I do glance at it throughout the day and night. I have seen the polps out more times during the day then at night. When they are out they are not always fully extended. Originally, I was only feeding it when the polyps were out. Now, I'm trying to feed it more often by coaxing the polyps to open with cyclopeez then feeding brine shrimp or mysis. The picture was taken after feeding this morning.

They seem to immensely enjoy raw squid, too. Mine will take the mysis, but usually stop at 2 or 3. When I give them small chunks of raw squid they will just keep grabbing it until I stop at 5 pcs. What type of flow do you have it in?

Mine'd eat my hand if I left it there long enough!

Here are some updated pics:

Night with flash..... beauties, aren't they?

Closeup

Front of the colony..... Can you see all the "forked" tentacles? It seems dendros suffer form "split ends" too!

WendyMc: There is flow (not direct) that keeps the polyps moving around. But, not enough to say have the polyps pinned to one side of the other. I will give squid a shot. I did notice that after I fed them more yesterday that the polyps stayed out much longer. How do you know that you have fed them enough? How often do you feed them?

Thanks!

I usually keep giving mine pieces of food until they stop grabbing them. I wait of course in between until the first chunk is swallowed & the polyps are fully out again. I haven't had them stop grabbing onto the squid, but I wasn't willing to push it past 8! The little maniacs would have taken more pcs than that if I kept going. I feed mine at least every other day. Most times once a day.

John - it's funny, but when I got my 3 header it had very neon yellow tentacles. Now they're closer to yours in appearance...

Here are pictures of the same dendro polyp prior to eating and then about two hours after eating mysis shrimp.

I thought the difference was kind of neat.

How big was the fish the Rhizo ate? Would they be safe with Mandarins? Also, anyone know if they reproduce in aquariums?

With Dendros growing so fast you would think people would be selling frags left and right. Seems like everyone in Cali area has them, how much do the LFS around there charge for them? I live in NY and can't find them anywhere...but still looking

Hello,

I believe the Dendros we sell are D. Coccinea (sp?). We also have a different morph that came from another area of the ocean =)

Qckwzrd. In Marietta about 30 minutes N of Atlanta there is a LFS Cappucino Bay. They have very nice frags / corals / clams/ etc. People come from all around Atlanta to go to there. They currently have about 6-7 nice Dendro polyps for sale.

thecichlidpleco, I think dendros were going for at least 80+ back when this thread started and probably even more.

They don't cost as much nowadays but are still kind of hard to find and magnificient though!

I really don't think that many people have rhizos. Many a few handful on RC have them. I'd like to get them myself but since they are so expensive, I'll stick to dendros.

Another thing, I don't see very many balanophyllias too!

captivereef is the place for both, however, if you think about it, not buying any other coral during the year would offset the purchase of a nice rhyzo.

I've checked out captive but a lot of times he is sold out. I'm hoping other places can get in more rhizos and balanos, they are so pretty.
