Dendrophyllia Sp. IDs
there seems to be several different species of this LPS that are making there way into this hobby............. here are several obvious variants............. please share your experiences......

I love these guys, they eat, open during the day, eat more. I love the red one in the middle...niiiice. I can't wait to see the red open up, I bet it is a beauty.

first one to the left looks like a
dendrophyllia coarctata second one could be either dendrophyllia arbuscula or balanophyllia ponderosa or just a tubastrea sp. (common sun coral) can you post a picture with its tentacles ? the last one is the only other one that has been offered, which is very new and not common in the hobby, i believe its dendrohpyllia coccinea. |

i like my dendro also they comeout during the day like jen mentioned
i use to have sun coral and it only came out in the night and i woudl hate it becasue its one of the most beautiful corals out there.

clownfishcrazy sorry those are sun coral. Dendros are much bigger. I will try to get a pic to compare the two for you.

clownfishcrazy- did you buy them from a lfs? I think those a just really big tubestrea. The dendros are easily as big around as your finger/thumb on the trunk, so I don't think those are the ones

Nope they are not mine, those were in a touch pool at the Nagasaki Aquarium in Japan.

Yeah those would be dendros, I've never seen such a branchy piece, very nice!!!!

from my experience they rather come out when there is lighting than in a "dark" tank.............. sorry i always wanted to use that ..............
