Show Me Your Landscaping!

So, with all of the nice weather we are having here, I have the itch to start landscaping the yard. I don't know if anyone in the Lounge likes to play these kind of threads, but out "there" they always have the "show me" threads about fish tanks, so I thought I would try one regarding landscaping in here. This would include flower beds, bushes, ponds, and driveways with ditches (if you've done anything special).

Does anyone have any pictures to share?

i took this from on top of the roof. it's a pretty old pic, probably 3 or 4 years. we've added a lot more stuff, bird feeders, nest boxes, etc. my flowerbed is now all perennials. i have a new union jack flag to put up, been waiting for spring winds to die down. i'll probably do that this weekend.

That is very pretty!!! I like the 3 tiers of the flowerbed!!! Is that a section of fence in the background? I only ask because my husband's co-worker gave him 3 sections of wood fence that I am not sure what we are going to do with.

And ummm....what were you doing on your roof??? You weren't nude sunbathing, were you??

i plead the 5th on that ^ question!!!

yes, it's a privacy fence that hides the big butt ugly propane tank that is a necessity here.

Debi, with the picture of your yard posted 3 times in a row, does that make it 3D landscaping?

Hey Nina, yea plant, maintain, deadhead, or whatever is needed. The coleus were all started from cuttings saved from the year before. Some of the others started from seed,( the wife is a planthead and loves this stuff).
Those are the smokes that get the plumes of smoke, but that's them going to seed, and I don't let mine do that. They can put on about 15 feet of growth in one season. I keep mine about the size you see. Doing that keeps them from going to seed.

Here are the last two I did, hope they are keeping those weeds down.

Misled, that bed with the sign is really neat, well designed.

This is why I asked.

The first one is the side yard with the septic mound that still needs to be raked. I got most of the rest of the yard done.

But then there is the backyard right off the deck. It was mostly trees but a couple of years ago we started cutting down trees.

My muscles are already killing me and we still have to rake my mom's property! I should be in shape in no time!

Actually I wouldn't mind turning what we have in the back right now into a lawn, and then further back I would like to plant flowers in different spots and then hubby said make a path through there and have it like a natural garden like I have seen on HGTV.

Oh, and by the way those are all awesome pictures! I hope I can learn to plant flowers like that! And Mike, I am sure my hubby would not mind if I hired you to come and landscape a baseball field in my backyard! I am surprised that he hasn't done a driving range and small golf course back there. He has connections for the golf course as my BIL was a Superintendent at The Valley Club in Idaho. I always tease him that he went to Penn State to get a degree in grass!

Great spot, wooded areas have great potential for garden pathway, a few benches, a few color patches...

Yeah, benches in random spots! There was a show on HGTV that showed where this man had a rock with each of his grandkids names on them and he would move them around and each time they came they would run through the paths to find their rock. And then like Dave said, if it is a nice enough path, we could walk it and the kids could ride their bikes on it. But with all of that decaying organics out there, I bet that would make the best potting soil! I was pulling the leaves out of the bottom of a Birch tree and there was the perfect cupped area that you could almost fill with potting soil and put a plant in there. A bright red one would sure stand out against all that white!

This is the only one I have of my yard (in the background).
I have to pull that weed at least twice per year!

Well, at least it's not weed! And at least you don't have to mow or rake it!

Nice canopy!

Hey this is a great thread, if I could contribute it would be of my ex wife's yard but that's another story. Thanks to all that have shared pics so far.
