Shoot, my tank is toast I think

So for some reason my AC III controller turned all my pumps on, even the return pump which it shouldn't have since the main tank was only half full. The sump has been empty all day without water but running two eheims dry and a quiet one 1200 dry.

Do you think the pumps are toast?

Art--most good pumps have an auto shut off when it overheats or is run dry for an extended period of time. i bet your pumps will start once unplugged and given some time to cool down.

So far so good =) You're right. The Eheims and Quiet One 1200 works... there's one more return pump I haven't tried yet.

That sounds scary! The controllers are supposed to HELP, not screw things up.

yeah... but I was dumb to leave the return pump plugged in =X

I'm going to hookup my Reef Fanatic level controller to safeguard my sump pumps. When the water level drops too low I'm going to have it shutdown my pumps. All my pumps are on one DC8, so that the dc8 will go through the Reef Fanatic outlet. If it goes out, the Controller will email me an alarm, and I can go check on it.

The Vortech's will be on battery backup, so nothing will die hopefully =)
