His best bet is to have an LFS down there order one that's supposed to be a dwarf and hope that it is. Species available there will most likely be different than the dwarfs typically available in the states, the most common would be O. Mercatoris or O. Joubini, both common to Florida waters. He also might be able to find an Aussie website that has a dwarf.

He can probably find one a lot cheaper in Australia. Just make sure he's aware of the dangers of Blue Rings.

What is the max size they get? Are most reef temp critters or are most temperate?

Until the Snowflake eats it. Octopus is an Eels favorite food.

Most dwarfs are tropical species. About 5 inches tops. Very nocturnal.

Scientific names for the 2 most common FL dwarfs are O. Mercatoris and O. Joubini. They are the best dwarf for the states but I doubt they are available in AU.
