Have been toying with the idea for a long time now...

I have been toying for a long time now of the idea of an octopus tank. I was shot down, and flamed in the aggressive fish forum, so i'll try here.

I got a 40 gallon tank from my uncle this past week, and I just started cycling it. I would like to cycle it for 2 or 3 months, depending on how messy octopi are. I know that dwarf octos are very short lived, but this seems like my only option. I would like to try to breed them, to keep sort of a "flow" of octopi in the tank. Meaning, I will breed them, and keep the babies. The parents will soon die off, and then breed the babies, start all over again. I can get a "bali" octopus (which I assume is a bocki?) for very cheap. If it turns out that these are bocki, would this be a reasonable sized tank for one pair of them? Obviously, I would separate the babies, and I know that there is the chance of them eating each other. I also know that they are nocturnal, and I probably won't see them a lot. Please tell me this is possible. Please don't flame me if this seems completely ridiculous to you.

Thanks!
Brock Fluharty

Nobody knows if this is a god setup??? Also, how much do you think an O. bocki would sell for?

Sorry Brock I am not familiar with that species. I know from the reading I have done you are better off as big as you can go. I have read of people doing any thing from 10 gallons and up. I know my experience with the Octopus briareus which is the only type I have been able to get locally. This 55 gallon tank that I have is the first time I have been able to keep one alive for more than a week. That is not saying any thing less would or would not work just that my experience which is all I can speak of.
I am not sure if you have looked here but you may be able to get more specific info at this web page

Yeah, i've been a member there for a while now, but it seems like all of the octopod forums are extremely low-traffic, and inactive...

really? We actually have a very large number of posts per day for such a specialist group of animal husbandry.

I wasn't reffering to TONMO. I just meant that it seems like their aren't a lot of octopus owners out there. Either that, or they don't have internet.

Yea, they don't have the internet bc the octopi have taken over their households and are leaking mis-information about them so they may eventually take over the world!!! Or not....
