"challice" pics...lets see em!

OK w/ the Blasto pics thread out there and the Acan thread becoming a forum within itself... i've been waiting for the LPS forum to open to start this one. i've recently gotten addicted to these lesser known plating/encrusting LPS. i wanna see what's out there.

by "challice" corals i mean the collective group including not only Echinopora (the original challice) but Echinophyllia, Oxypora, and Mycedium as well. if you have anything that looks like one of these... go ahead and post that too. for example Acanthastera rotundoflora would fit in this thead better than the Acan theread...

OK so i'll start things off...

here's a lil variety.

Wild Echinophyllia I got about 8 months ago. Gotta frag it sometime soon:

Three different Echinopora (top Blue from Birch Aquarium, left Purple, right Tyree Blue Chalice)

Pictures of others at some point.

JEEZE! I was gonna post a pic or two, but so far everyone else has posted pics of the same specimens (Randy, Gary, Steve and I have all insestuously been sharing Echino's up here... )

But I can still take credit for bringing THIS one back from Michigan (thanks Ken).

And some day I'll have a few frags of this one to share:

Sean, you can just leave them on the bottom of the tank. They do well under a range of conditions, but get sweeper tentacles, which can kill just about anything (trust me....)

(more sweeper pics here:http://reef.myip.org/echno_sweepers/ ).

(Yes Steve, you do need to frag that one soon... )

Just a few that I've got from around town.
Green enchino

Pink Enchino

My new orange enchino next to the green

Then orange looks much better than in the picture I just couldn't get it to show right.
Not much too special right now but I've got you guys to try and keep up with.

Hey John,
After thinking about that, I can't decide it's that's lame that someone can look as these and know where they came from, or cool.

Randy,

I was guessing because the 3 color morphs above kinda originated from you at one point. Everyone seems to get 'a set' of them from you...including me

Which ones do you have or are inquiring about Sean? Echinopora, Echinophyllia, Oxypora, or Mycedium? They have different requirments. Some like a lot of light, some like shade. Some like more flow than others. But for the most part, these corals can be kept in any condition. Even very low light. They just lose some of their color.

Here's a 2 year old article on Echinophyllia.

I am inquiring about Echinopora.
I received some nice frags in a trade recently.
Thanks,
Sean
