Paranoia is the biggest obstacle to overcome...
Wow how paranoid I can get with this marine tank...
Here's mine: 1. Water spilling on the hardwood floor when moving my tank stand a few centimeters. This causes water to end up underneath the stand. Oh how the mind makes you crazy forcing you to worry about how messed up the hardwood floor would be underneath that stand. 2. One day the glass will crack and all that water, wow! 3.. Plumbing begining to leak I dont know if it's just me but this hobby has got me insane! |

car-pen-ter's level, at all points. If all else fails, push against it and shim with one of those little pine shims you can get at Lowe's.
Apply liquid to your interior and relax.

wait until one of your ballasts or a heater, or a flourescent endcap fail and start a fire. just make sure all your smoke alarms are working correctly. that's what kept my house from burning down when my tank caught fire from endcaps. the thought of a little water soon pales by comparison.

I thought it was just me. I have lost sleep thinking something is going to give. It's nuts or at least my husband thinks so.

Well, think of it like this. IF you think you've gotten water under your tank rim, try setting the tank [temporarily] on giant moving glides, enough of them to be sure it's not stressed, then use thin piece of paper toweling to see if you wick out any water. If you don't, stop worrying, and just think of your tank as about the equivalent of a refrigerator sitting there---or four stout friends conversing at a cocktail party. It's not the weight of the tank usually: it's the stand having 'stiletto heel' type contact points, not spreading its weight out properly.
To get a stand on glides, temporarily, or to correct a tilt with shims, have strong person in tennies push slowly and gently against the tank while partner slides shim or glide under stand rim. To remove, do same and pull them out quickly.

I like this thread. Its takes me forever to add something to my tank because I'm worried about spending the money to have it die. I'm also so paranoid about my overflow failing
