Little Magnifica

I had to create a space for him, but I couldn't resist getting this little guy. Its about 6" across the oral disk. I have a feeling it was collected in one of those H. magnifica "clone fields" because the LFS had two that were identical in color. The other one was a bit larger.

Right now a couple nigripes clowns are fighting over it in a refuguim sort of tank with lots of current and T5 lighting. It may end up with my perc pair in one of my displays with metal halides, or I may set up the cube I have wanting for me to set up and make it a species tank.

Here he is. I bought the rock especially for him, because I didn't have a flat rock for him to sit on.

That is one nice anemone. If it ever divided, I would love to get the clone from you.

Phender,

How is your new mag doing, and how many tanks do you have set up?

That is a great looking nem, good luck w/ him.

I wish we get anemones like that here in Corpus Christi. What a beautiful H. magnifica. My face is green like the tip of his tentacles right now. I am absolutely green with envy.

He is still doing very well. He has eaten twice and looks great.
I actually have 5 at home and one at school. 4 of the ones at home are in the "fish room". 2 of those are on the same system.

Ilham,
I put the pic in my gallery instead of my website. Hopefully now you can see it.

We don't get them here very often with this kind of color and in good health either. I think this one was transhipped directly to my LFS. Every once in a while he gets small ones that are in good shape.
Before you ask, no he doesn't like to ship.

I am interested in it to see how its going to do under T5s. I know there was some disagreements with T5s vs. MH about which lighting would be more suitable for H. Magnifica.

Glad I could hook you up.
Mine seems to be doing great. So far it has been a greedy eater.
I hope your's does well. The base looked very blue in the LFS "tank". It is much more purple in mine.

When I first saw it, I told Jimmy (the owner) that I didn't have room for another anemone and I wasn't going to buy it, but I wanted to know the price. He told me the price with a big smile on his face and said, "see, see what I did there, now you are thinking about making some room aren't you". I went home and cleaned up a tank for its arrival. The next day I went back and he honored the quoted price. I'm not sure his wife was very happy when she was ringing up the sale though.

Beautiful H.mag Phender!
I wish I was able to find healthy ones out here.
I'd love a nice colored one to go along with my Brown based, yellow tipped H.magnifica.

someday.....

Under my 10k XMs the base is very, very purple. It is blue under actinics, like it was under Jimmy's bulbs .... his were probably 20k. I hope the tentacles color up more. Apparently the brown tentacle anemones often color up very nicely in our systems. Ask Shu Tin (she posts here sometimes) to show you her "brown" magnifica....

Phender,

Any updates on your mag? hope all is well. also, how long did you wait before you fed it? and what did you feed it? I usually feed my other nems silver sides. The reason I ask is I picked up a small mag that looks almost identical to yours and is in great health. Tight mouth, fully inflated, basking in the light, etc.etc.

I will try and get a goop pic later today, but they always turn out very blue, not sure why???

Thanks,
Aaron

I started to feed it the day after I got it.
I like to feed it a little everyday. I make sure that some of the Formua 1 or mysis that I feed the fish makes it into the anemone. About twice a week, I am feeding it finely chopped silverside or shrimp.
The one I had before seemed to have trouble with large pieces of food, so I'm trying to stay small and often.

Thanks Phender.

On a side note, how are preparations for school going? Being a procrastinator, I am not ready.

God luck w/ the new school year and what ever else comes you way.

Phil, be careful with silversides. I lost 3 giganteas and a mag to bad silvers and have vowed never to feed them again. Now it's strictly krill or shrimp along with the occasional mysis.

I just use seafood for human consumption only, and only those that I know that are fresh and without additive.

Man this makes me worry a lot. Any idea how they went bad such as leaving it out to defrost or something?

Phender please post more pics!

This is the exact reason why I buy organic seafood.

There was no indication that the food was bad, never defrosted or anything like that. The brand was "Sallys Silversides".
