"The Complete Illustrated Breeder's Guide to Marine Aquarium Fishes" by Matthew L. Wittenrich would be an excellent read. Is the clownfish book you have Wilkensons? If not, it's worth picking up. Also read the sticky thread in this forum on food culturing.

yea, the book i have is wilkensons. i have seen the book you are talking about at PETCO, sadly the only place local that sells saltwater, for $45. i work at the aquarium and have the rotifer and phytosystems on lock, i copied their systems on a much smaller scale only to have them tell me that they would give me the small amounts i needed.

also, for the tank i got a 10w 50/50 bulb but it will not turn on no matter what fixture i put it in. do you think the ballast is broken possibly?

That book is not cheap, but it's worth it

If the bulb is not working despite trying a couple of different fixtures, the bulb/ballast is bad. Let me guess, it's one of the little coral life screw in self ballasted PC bulbs?

I gave up on coral life bulbs of any kind a long, long time ago They just have far too many issues with plain not working right out of the box or dieing rather early on. Something that has plagued that brand for quite a few years. While you won't get the actinic, the PC bulbs found at Home Depot are generally 6500k

For a fry tank I wouldn't use anything stronger than an air driven sponge filter set on low

glorious! thats what i like to hear, nothin that will put a dent in the ol' wallet. so i found another one of those coralife bulbs because they are the least strong light i could find and this one actually works. but i will still be on the look out for something of better quality.
