You are not a newbie, and I'm not an expert
Yes, soft corals have many similarities, Hexacorallia - many similarities too. No, I do not quarantine corals and anemones, but better to be safe, than sorry. No, I'm not using coral dip and too slow acclimation - trying to reduce any possible negative influences and keep the new arrival alive. Checking colonies for a predators: I'm doing this before buying coral, without handling but with some magnification. I'm handling everything, including anemones, with clean bare hands - I don't think that antibacterial agent, added to the latex gloves will do any good, and too high risk to mishandle and damage coral in such crude thing, as Aqua Gloves. But - no hand lotions of any kind for 12 hrs before handling, with hot wash before starting. IMHE, corals can tolerate very wide range of water parameters, just closing as a reaction on changes. Too long acclimation, without oxygen and water flow - and this could be worse, than nothing. Or there was another question meant? |

many thanks. I've been at this long enough to know I'm a generalist, and to ask where I'm too general to be quite accurate...lol! You're very very right about too long an acclimation.
