Super Bad Mom
Poor Brandon.... I'm sooooo unreasonable.
He wanted to go to an allnight party on New Year's Eve held at our local church. He shows me the flyer with all the information on it (raffles, games, etc.) and wants to go. I tell him that I don't have enough information from that flyer (chaperones, rules, etc.) to make a decision and that he needs to get me a phone number and person to talk to to answer my questions and then I would decide if he could go. According to him, I'm totally unreasonable, none of his other friends, blah, blah, blah, Too bad! He got me the information, I called, and in the end he was able to go. Hubby and I are going away this weekend. By ourselves! WOOT! Jena is spending the weekend with a friend. Brandon needs to stay home and take care of the dogs so I've asked my brother to come and stay the weekend for Brandon. Brandon thinks he's old enough (15) to stay alone. WRONG! Yep, SUPER BAD MOM

15 is too young to stay alone overnight, I agree.
He may think he is old enough, but he is not. Tell him I said so, maybe that will help.

Lol. You're right.
I did my first overnight babysitting gig [a week, in summer] when I was sixteen. Prior to that, I'd been sitting those two kids on New Year's Eve. Kid, aged 8, heads for fridge to get a glass of milk. Condensation on big glass milk bottle. She drops it. It shatters, slashing her ankle in a 3" cut to the bone at one spot. She's standing in her nightgown, barefoot, in a puddle of broken glass, milk and blood---pouring blood and screaming. I arrived from the living room with her sister...having shoes on. I waded in, crunching glass underfoot, ordered the sister to stand rock still, hefted the wounded kid to the kitchen sink, sat her on the counter top and put the wounded foot in, proceeded to run cold water til I was sure all the glass was out, [deaf to screams and hyperventilation], then made a compression pad out of paper towel and had 10 year old hold it in place while I called my folks, who I knew were only 2 blocks away. They said they were on their way. THEN I used the number for the parents...told them what was going on, and since they were too sloshed to drive safely, they said could my parents call them when they'd assessed the situation. Yep, ER. Several stitches. She'd cut that big vein that goes right across the anklebone. My family managed it. Everybody got out safely. The 10 year old and I had the kitchen clean by the time her folks got home. They did give me a 5 dollar tip. Why, you ask, couldn't she have done it on any other night? Nope, they wait for the babysitter. And I would HATE to have had to handle that mess a year earlier than 16.

A 15 year old boy can do a tremendous amount of damage in a weekend

way to be on it mom ... I don't blame ya, that is a bit young to be home alone- even if Brian thinks it's a good idea ...
I used to go roller skating for New Year's Eve- it was a blast, get there at 6:00 (basically lived there until I was 16 or so and I helped out a lot with skate rentals and such) didn't start until 8 or maybe 9 ::: then you got locked in until 6:00 am... it was a good time... Christy...

Christy, yep, parents sign them in and sign them out. They had so much to do. I wish I could have gone. They had paint ball and a skateboard park, guitar hero tournament, DDR tournament, etc. There is no sleeping and no dark areas. You get tired, you may SIT on the couch. Kids had a blast.
Drauka, daughter doesn't have a boyfriend

Oh C'mon...let him stay.
But put in hidden camera. What better ways to get to know what he's really like. |

I seriously doubt any mother would want to watch their 15 year old son on hidden camera. Ignorance is bliss.

I did watch him one time. He was 13 and I was just letting him go home after school by himself. He was told he had to do his homework before he could play on the computer or watch tv. I hooked up a camera that I could access while I was at work. He didn't see it.
Funniest thing, I logged on from work and called home. Talked to him and asked what he was doing. He told me homework as I was watching him sit at the computer, confused that he got booted off, and the look on his face when he realized I could SEE HIM!! Changed the password to the computer to "busted"

I must have been a strange kid! Or I have very lenient parents, because I was being left home to "house sit" much younger than 15. But then again, my parents didn't have much to worry about from me

My parents were foolish enough to leave me alone at home for their 10 day vacation when I was 17.

Hubby's parents left him home alone at 17 for 2 weeks. The parents were barely out of the driveway and he had girls moving in with suitcases. Keg leaked all over the living room and someone put a hole in their waterbed.
And he was the good kid
