Stagnant RO/DI water
hi,
I was filling up my tank with RO/DI water straight from the filter unit and stopped it halfway. I won't be be filling the rest for a week or so. Right now the water is stagnant in my tank. I wanted to put some sort of agitator but had none or any time to go out and buy one. I'm away for a week so wont be even near the tank. Should I come home worried that the water had been stagnant in the tank for 7 days w/o a lid? I heard bacteria will form and cause problems in a future reef. Any input is appreciated. thanks |

is it a new empty tank that you are filling?

At worst I would think you might have a little photosynthetic algae growth beginning...but maybe not even that.
I don't think bacteria growth is a significant concern if the tank is otherwise empty and devoid of any nutrient source for bacterial growth. Hopefully you don't have any small pets or other critters that try to get in for a drink...and realise too late their is no way out... Otherwise I think you are fine. JMO. Best wishes,
