Seeing pictures of a few of the fabulous tanks, and then learning of the crashes, kind of takes away the joy.

Here's one of my inspirations:

The fact that Playfair was able to have such an amazing thriving mixed reef with 175's gave me hope that my 175's could be successful.

I would like to know the same if anyone has any info. Rob's tank was very impressive. I think he went overseas for some time and then when he came back he sold his corals off and tore his tank down. Never heard anything else after that. Anyone know if he is still in the hobby?

In Christmas of 02 I picked up a few pieces from a friend of his in the Northern VA area. I was told that some the large pieces in his tank were form ROBZ's tank, and that he had torn his tank down and had not contacted any of the local reefers since. There is another N VA reefer with quite a few of his pieces as well; he can step forward if he wishes. Rob coined the phrase Miyagi tort, but it was not his piece. He thought the owner resembled Mr. Miyagi, I think it was red necking more than anything. Funny how names are given to certain pieces.

He was saving components for a new large tank (250g ish) but he sold all that hardware last summer. Bunch of Deltec stuff, lumenarcs etc... I spoke w/some of his DC/VA/MD friends at MACNA and they have not heard from him quite some time.

Hard to be convinced to go bare bottom after looking at these tanks. Most have sand, and not all that deep either.

Interesting.

In case anyone is wondering, Yasuhiro's tank is:

150cm(W)x90cm(D)x65cm(H)

which comes out to

58.5"(W)x35.1"(D)x25.4"(H)

about 225 gallons.

Why don't we get some more nominations and then do an official Reef Central "My Favorite Idol" poll.

Me too. I want to emulate the Japanese tanks when I get a new one (hopefully soon). BTW, here's a link to a previous RC thread on Japanese tanks. Lot's of great pics.
