i was thinking of buying the same tank. Did you consider having perfecto pre-drill the tank for built-in overflows? also where did you get the plans to build the stand?

very nice set-up

Hell yeah Jon! Coming along rather nicely...So is this gonna be a mixed reef tank? SPS? Did you do the canopy and stand yourself? Nice work!

Thanks for all the kind words. I'll be posting some more pictures tomorrow.

sidjam - The tank came pre-drilled but uses a standpipe setup from Marineland called Jetstream. Normally it would have two drains and two returns but I converted it to four drains.

Rocky - Yeah it is going to be SPS on the left side and softies on the right. I don't want to worry about Xenia, Zoos, and GSPs overtaking the SPS. I did all the work on the stand and canopy myself.

You're going to put GSP and xenia in the new tank? Have you learned nothing from ORCA?

Chad-You know Naomi she loves her softies.

Took a couple of pictures of my latest creations. First is a picture of my DIY DJ88 inspired Calcium Reactor. Still waiting on the pump and media to get it hooked up.

Next is my DIY Neilsen Reactor. Semi inspired by DJ88 with its square shape:

What do you think of the Wave 2K's?
I have been thinking about going with them instead of a closed loop in my new system.
Do you get the flow they claim?

How do you like the 12/2 Skimmmer?

Do you find the XM20K's too Blue?

The tank looks great keep us posted.

I like the Wave2Ks. They took a bit of tweaking in the beginning to make them quite but once I got them dialed in I haven't had to touch them. The flow they put off is great. The best part is how random it is.

The EuroReef 12/2 is wonderful. By far one of my best purchases. I will never use any other brand skimmer.

I'm running the XMs on a HQI ballast so they are a nice crisp white with just a hint of blue. I like them a lot better than the Radiums running on the same ballast and you can't beat the price.

Thought I would post an updated picture. The tank has been up and running for about a month now and is doing good. Just the normal new tank algae blooms. Not a lot of corals on the "new" SPS side of the tank. Everything on the right "softie island" side came from a 55 that this tank replaced.

How'd you get you tank to cycle so fast. I just started up this 170G Prop system and I wanted it cycled yesterday.

Well it cycled with live rock for about a month before I moved the corals over.

Hmm....GRRR...I don't wanna wait that long, but i hate using chemicals instead of doing it naturally.

The tank has the Jetstream overflows from Marineland. Basically a standpipe. Not the best design in the world but once you get them dialed in they work ok.
