im drilling a 29g and having the sump behind it. Many people have tanks upstairs and sumps in the basement. The left side of the main page has this link : Head loss calculator. And find the pump that has the flow you want.

I did the sump in the basement on my 180 gallon. I am using an external pump to push the water back up stairs.

I have drilled my 180 gallon, a 20L and a 30G. All with the cheapo bits you get on ebay. It is easy, go slow, use lots of cool running water, pull the bit up and down a little to let the cool water get in the groves. To start you want to get a piece of wood or something as a "jig" or the bit will want to walk around and scratch the tank. Once you get it started you can remove the jig. again go slow and let the weight of the drill do the work. put a towel or something under where you are drilling so when you go through you don't drop the piece of glass you are drilling to the other side. you may want to tape the back side of where the you are drill also, this will help it from chipping when you go through.

It is quite easy. I was a bit nervious when i did my 180 (which wsa the first tank i ever drilled).
