hydor korilia nano un-sealed magnet problem?
It seems the magnet they use is not sealed at all. When I first purchased the pump this initially worried me, but alas i thought nothing of it as surely a company who specializes in making pump for aquaria would not put out a product that wasn't safe for aquarium use. I installed the pump and have been using it for about 3-4 months now.
Today I was doing some re-arranging and decided to take a look at the magnet out of curiosity. I didn't like what I found: this is the magnet that is on the inside of the aquarium. It has noticeably started rusting and it also has another areas of greyish discoloring. the magnet on the left is on the outside and as you can see it looks good as new. I haven't noticed anything adverse or abnormal lately, but I cant help but wonder If I were to leave this in my tank what could the long term affects be? This is only after about 3 months of use. Am i being overly cautious here or is this something that I should change and that hydor needs to address? I really cant see how having an exposed metal magnet in out reef tanks can be a good thing also i guess i should add that this is only on there nano version, as there larger pumps have sealed magnetic mounts. |

wow this was on page 5 already so I need to bump this before it gets lost in the abyss that is reef central. Nobody has anything to add?

That's weird, the nanos I have seen have sealed magnets. Maybe yours was defective, or they changed the design.

Yeah, I would definitely contact the manufacturer (or even the vendor) before using that. Even if they said it was ok, I'd be leery of it.
