Downset, sorry about the mess.
I wont name names but I know of at least one relatively seasoned reefer on RC who has a bright red lord that he thought was a caulastrea forever until someone pointed out that it was a lord once they became more popular. I can imagine that a watermelon echino could look like a mycedium if it was kept in substandard conditions or in a tank with very monochromatic light.

Hey Seareef, can you tell us a little bit about how you aquired this coral? Like when did it come in, from which collection area, what it looked like when you first saw it and if there were siblings that came in with that shipment.

I doubt there are any other pieces in circulation with this unique coloration, it seems to be to be a distinct individual morph, I have never seen another on like it, not even close to the intensity...I guess it's a blessing that tyree will have it, at least it ensures the future of this unique animal

The coral had to have parents but the question is whether this is a localized genotype or a rare offspring from a green eyed parent and a pink flesh parent. I dont even know if there would be a way to find out without at least being a little more certain about its geographic origin.

Could it be a genetic anomaly unique to this piece?

Just like SEAReef said, its all about connections, and you being in the right place.

That is not the case for moi, location is a very limiting factor over here.

Bugsy, you better grow that thing good, we expect you to be making frags for us soon.

Seareef-Is it a fast grower? It's been in captivity for 2 years so I imagine it's settled in well...

Wow. That is a beautiful piece, probably the most attractive echinophyllia (assuming that's what it is) that I've seen. You guys better break SeaReef off something reeeel nice for hooking you up.
