Mine will does this too. I use it as an indication I need to check the skimmer or do a water change. When this happens my water parameters always check out fine. I begining to wonder if it has to do with the amount of organic matter in the water. This is just speculation.

Mine was just recently doing this so I did a water change. Adjusted the skimmer to skim a little wetter. After about five days it is fully expanded. Feeders came out tonight when I feed the fish as well. It has been a while since it did that. I need to keep a better log.

Cheers!

How long have you had this? How often do you feed it?

I feed mine every two weeks and it fully expands most of the time day and night.
