switching tanks

I switched tanks from a 55 gallon to a 30 gallon. I am planning on doing f/o (possibly with live rock). My questions is I let an aqua clear 500 run on my 55 for a week, i emptied the 55 put some of the sand into the 30 installed the same aq500 on the 30. My question is should I let the tank cycle again, or will the sand and the filter provide the bacteria. The old tank was up for 2 years. It was fish only with live rock. I took some tonga branches and put them in the new tank as well. I currently have nothing in the 30g besides the few pieces of small rock and the sand from the old tank. I don't want to go buy my pair of clowns and kill due to the tank cycling again.

you're still going to want to let it cycle for a little while, maybe not as long as with a brand new filter. just keep checking your params, and once ammonia and nitrate/nitrite go back to normal, you should be fine
