Do not do it Marvin! They are addictive! I recently started with my first couple of Non Indos. I got the Pink Sparkle from Jendub (Very Nice) and a Purple / Red / Green from The Cultivated Reef. It is fairly new but is coloring up and I think it will be nice. As soon as my camera is functional I will take some PICS.

Here's a couple. I believe the first one is from Japan. The damage was caused by it falling into a Chalice. Sorry about the bad photos, I'm still trying to figure out my new camera!

I'm really not sure. I've been wondering that myself. The polyps are fairly large. Not the size of a regular acan lords though.

djmuzzi, Awesome!

Randy,

What do you mean these are "one of the few that actually grew for me"? Do you find the "non-indos" dont grow as well as the common indos? Just curious, thanks!

Depends on the morph. There are many people that have not seen any growth w/ some morphs of non-indo.

Back in September 2004 I received 10 frags of Lords. Most likely all were Non-Indo. I say most likely since the guy never advertised as to where they came from.

After about 6 months, half of the frags I got peeled off their skeleton. 3 of them had doubled in size in that time, and 2 had neither grown, or shrunk. Only one of my frags ended up growing very well, and it's still in debate whether that one is a Micro or a lord.

That is my experience with them. Maybe others have had better luck. I know of a bunch of people that got them from the same source as me, and had similar results.

It really is too bad. Some of the nicest color morphs are corals that will never grow.

I guess I'll dig up some old pictures.

Here's the group of frags I got back in September 2004.

Here's a few a month after settling in. The Powder blue spotted, big polyp Acan was my favorite.

A few shots a month later.

November 2004

I also added the two dark green lords to my collection around this time.

A month later the bottom cracked on my newly setup 150 gallon tank.

So the collection of Acans were sent off to my 40 breeder with PC lighting. They looked great under this light.

December 2004

BTW, all the larger colonies in the last pic are Indo Acanthastrea, and all were grown from 3-5 polyp frags.

In January, I moved the collection into a 50 gallon with a single 400 watt MH 10K with 2 VHO Actinics.

January 2005

The green morph really looked great under this lighting, and started to grow.

January 05

You can see a couple new polyps on the top left of the piece.

This is the one that grew the best. I still think it's a Micro

The odd thing about the Micro is that is was solid bright red when I got it, with just some white marks in it.

Feb 05

Micro is above red arrow. My blue morph is started to get burnt by the 400 watt halide.

March 05

I got my first frag of Orange Crush Acan from TigaBoy in a trade. He got it from Mike at The Captive Reef.

The green center red lord has also started to grow.

March 05

Here's that Micro again
