Nicole,
Sounds as is you have a right pair of characters here. In fact most of our tank inhabitants are real characters on the reef. They are ever so sweet. Steve |

Nicole, what size are the clay pots? You (they)like them better than PVC pipes?Don´t the shrimps dig a burrow and gobies follow in?.They both look grayish now.

Half pots, about 3" or 3 1/2" in diameter, but I need to get some bigger, as the nests are starting to drag the ground. They picked the flowerpots over PVC for some reason.
The male turned gray when I moved him out of the reef, although he's more washed out that she is. I tried putting bright lights over their tank for a couple of months, but the male did not turn yellow again. Hmmm. Yes, they go in the den with the pistols and usually (not always) sleep with them. (Too funny to see the male laying on top of both pistols at night!) The pistols don't have enough raw material to build a really big complex, and there isn't enough room behind the rock that forms most of the den to have a nest. It was a calculated risk, but it paid off -- with the addition of the pistols the gobies calmed down and started laying regular, healthy nests. Photo - not much room behind the rock. Yes, the pistols has eggs here:

Amazing how the relationship with the pistols reassures them so much. Makes sense that they feel more protected with the shrimp about and the need to puff up isn't required too much anymore. Sweet pic of the pistol!

Thanks.
I had a 20 hour power outage last night. Sorry, but the rotifers were not on the list of critical life support. Nice smelly sludge. Some of the the L strain survived, but gee, guess what, the S- is gone again. Surprised? Maybe I just need to breed something with a bigger mouth!

Nicole,
Sorry to hear about the 'S' strain loss again. How far along were the bacth? Would it be possible once you had a batch going to place some in the fridge and slow the metabolism down and keep a reserve going. The reason that I ask is I will probably look at doing something similar. Steve |

I have had so-so results with a fridge backup. However, this was a new culture I was nursing. It was barely surviving after being fed on tomato juice when my IA went bad. Not the tomato juice's problem I think, but me not knowing how much to feed.
