Fungia spawning?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I picked up this nice fungia (could be cycloseris--not sure) yesterday at a LFS. He's had it there in the store for a few months and I brought it home and put it in my well established (4+ years) mixed reef. This morning I found that it looked somewhat "overinflated" for lack of a better term, so I watched it for awhile to see what the deal was. As I watched it, it expelled what looked like a sperm cloud out of it's mouth. It did this at about 1 minute intervals about 5 times (at least while I was watching it) then returned to what I would consider "normal".
First of all, was it releasing sperm? And if so is it a result of stress? Should I be worried about it? I have to admit (embarrased enough) that I had it in a bowl on my desk while acclimating it and accidentily knocked a small stapler (my desk is kinda crowded) right on top of it. It didn't really seem to do any damage to it though.

Here's a movie (if it works)

Nice looking fungia. Definitely a spawning event. Usually due to ideal conditions or stress. In this case I would vote for stress as it was just introduced to your tank. My guess is that it was caused my difference in tank conditions.

IMO it looks fine and healthy. I wouldn't be concerned unless it ceases to expand, shows recession, etc.

Good luck and congrats.

Garrett.

Thanks. The tentacles are 100% out and if anything it's over expanded--I think it will be fine.
