What to do about a hiding anemone.

I got a BTA 10 days ago.
It has been attached to the rock work in the back of the tank without any direct light.
Should I just leave it or attempt to readjust its position.

In that position it can not even be fed.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks,
Sean

If you can move the rock it be good to get it to direct lighting and water flow, but eventually it will move if unsatisfied with environment.

Re: What to do about a hiding anemone.

Sean,

This the same one/two that split the other day?
If so, any sign of bleaching post split?

If so, can you tell if the oral cavity has closed?

If so, quite a few of mine have hid for a month or so after stress induced splits.

Scott,

It has retained its color.
I can verify this with a flachlight.
However, in its locale I can not see its center.

Hate to say it, but I would go after it and isolate it in something I could control access, light, feeding, etc. I use large plastic pond planters for such duty. Maybe your set up will allow you to put one half submerged on top of a rock pile or to use some tie wraps and float it?

Anemones on the move tend to move, if this one has parked, I fear it may have given up. You might be able to susped a light or play with flow but you might just be convincing it, "I made a good decision to choose this spot."

If it was a 8-12" across specimen, I would be less concerned, they can afford much more time for trial and error.

Yeah, Sunday I am going to move the rock it is attached to in a position to where I can better see the animal and get it some light.
It may stay put it may not.

Thanks for the advice.

It almost sounds as if we are in the same (or at least similar) boat. I wish you luck. Mine - my first - is in a low light area, and I can barely see it some times. I think I was able to feed it the other day though.
Good luck.

I removed the rock from the back of the tank and brought it forward.
Here are some pics of the anemone.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Sean

Sean, Shade it and feed it. It is going to need some time adjusting to lights. Goo luck.

Then the anemone decided it was no longer happy and started to dislodge its foot.

Don't worry.
When the anemone decided to begin dislodging I turned off the Tunze.

He, that's right it's a he , landed on the stream and stuck.

Go figure.

sean If you can, put it in a crack about mid level with a gentle flow. Your tank looks very imature. It might just be that the water paramaters are out of wack which is affecting the lil bugger.

Dont risk it, get a net breeder type of set up and keep it safe. Spot should be at the fringe of the lighting area, likely a front or rear corner. You may even need to sheild it.

fwiw: I have used pond planter baskets, attached styrofoam with tie wraps, and let the baskets float around the tank. Put mess cover over the top to block a portion of the light (pond basket material worked, get an extra ). Looks silly as all get out, but it works like a champ while they are recovering.
