WTB: Mag 9.5 or Eheim 1262

if you've got either of these laying around, I'd like to put it to use. I think my skimmer is under powered so I need a larger pump.

Eheim! No question about it. Why buy a used Pinto when you can have a Mercedes Less heat, lasts MUCH longer and has pretty much a spotless track record, unlike the Mag 9.5 (a model that has shown many of my friends problems)

Eheim runs quieter under pressure then the mag 9.5 as well. IIRC it can deliver a higher PSI, something skimmers are VERY hungry for.

Look at Oceanrunner pumps as well, just as good as Eheim but MUCH cheaper.

I would but I don't have any feedback on them. I've read that people have had success with those two pumps on an ev180

I have owned multiples of all pumps listed. OR's are not in the same class as Eheim. They are made much weaker, prone to leaking and chatter (more noise) under pressure like the MAg 9.5 (but less then the 9.5). Not to mention the do not deliver as much PSI as the Eheim.

Eheim again is the best option if you plan on not buying another pump in a few years. OR's seem to last ~4-5 years, Mag's less. I have a 1260 that is now over 10 years old. 1 new impellar, 2 new o-rings and the thing is still better then an OR or MAG

Nope, sorry I just noticed the skimmer listed in your sig (EV180). If you want that unit to work to it's best, Eheim is your only option. I have used the 180 with mags and recently a OR. They just can not deliver the PSI needed to make that puppy work like it really can.

I agree with Gresh. Eheim pumps are enduring and reliable. Mercedes would be an inappropriate analogy, as their post DaimlerChrysler track record is highly suspect.

Eheim's more like a Toyota or Lexus

Pssh using the car anagoly isn't right no matter how it's cut. I have never had a car as easy to take care of as my Eheim pump,

FWIW computer modders use Eheims for cooling pumps. Try that with a OR

Ocean Runner as good as an Eheim? Sounds like that guy with the Mitsubishi who claims he bought it because someone said it was as good as an M3, just much cheaper..........................

let's not forget that this hobby is all about preference and also, we can't all afford to drive a ferrari. So, some of us will settle for a Benz and others for a pinto. Personally, I'm a student, so I'm looking for the 'bang for buck type deal;' or as some may call it--I want a Toyota Prius [with a ferrari motor].

I would have to disagree on the OR pumps not being equal to the Eheim. I have not completed all my testing yet but I was extremly disappointed in the Eheim 1260. So far I have found OR to be spot on with their nameplate or advertised watts and GPH numbers while the 1260 fell short. I have not had the opportunity to test a 1262 yet but expect it to be much better.
I own 4 OR pumps and have yet to have any problems in 3-4 years of usage. I can't say the same for Quiet Ones, Via Aquas and Mags I have owned and removed from service due to shorting out, noise and poor performance.
