Eric,
I just re-read my last post and realized it read like I was asking for frags.....sorry about that. It wasnt the intent, more of a rant than anything else, with the added bonus of acknowledging how good your tank looks. Sorry about that.... It will take a bit of time to get going, but I should have the annoying stuff done here soon, (poly urethane on the stand etc). Nick

Nick - didn't take that post that you were asking at all. you just stated you wanted AEFW's free frags when you get up and running. never said from me
well i'm off to cut my acrylic to redo my sump. here my schematic of what i am doing http://www.lunchbucket.org/images/sump_revamp2.jpg i'm not going to be able to add a lot of room for a refuge...but i will have one!! also i will be able to turn the skimmer front to back and have some room for an acclimation area. the sump will be 4" longer and a touch deeper (front to back). also in the back left corner there is a area for the overflow from the tank. the skimmer will feed the fuge. also i will be able to feed my skimmer from the overflow and get rid of a pump. oh and the PO4 Rx will move from HOT to hang on sump. and i'm adding a carbon reactor. i have some really fine carbon (about the same as rowaphos size) call aquasorb 2000 (i think). so the po4 will get fed by a pump and then the po4 reactor will feed the carbon reactor and dump back into the sump. there will be some area in the stand to put some supplies i have laying around the stand (the wife will be happier). this is my 1st acrylic project that needs to be done really well. i'm borrowing my boss's table saw as on mine the fence sucks and never cuts anything square. i bought .22 and .25" acryic at lowes yesterday. i got the .22 because it was 18"x24" pieces. the sump will be 24" long so i don't have to cut this piece for length the .25" is 24x48" piece. i'll cut it all up and use weld on #3 (i dont' have #4 ) and i have some #16 incase it doesn't match up perfect. anyone ever used the wire inside of a bread twist tie for the pins when gluing acrylic? they work well or they too thin? wish me luck! oh and i'll get pics along the way! Lunchbucket

You guys are never going to let go of that one.
Lunch, that sump is looking great. Are you using any weight to put on the pieces when you are gluing the joints with the pin method? |

Just about time for a split, huh Lunch.
Sump plans look good. I would like to re-do mine as well, especially if I upgrade to an ATi skimmer.

ok ok guys geeze!! i have to work you know :P
ok i glued quite a bit last night!!! here is what i did last night glued the back of the "jut out" piece on to the left side glued the sides of the fuge to the front and glued the back side of the fuge to the right side of the "jut out" that was all last night now today i glued the fuge back to the fuge sides and front. and i glued the two internal (right side on my drawing) baffles in DANG IT! 1ST MESS UP!! those baffles that i glued on the fuge front side (internal baffles before the return seciton) were 1/4 or more short. i forgot when i was cutting i decided to cut some off of the fuge sides so i made teh fuge less deep (front to back) by 1/4 or more. so i need to fix this. see the gap in the pic...sorry for being dark but it was the only way it would turn out here is my fix! these two pieces (they have the blue protective film on them) will be glued to the front of the sump and then to the baffle filling the ~1/4" gap now here is where i have the sump now. i'm gluing the front to the back on the right side. the red arrow pionts to the joint i am gluing. i'm letting this sit for a couple hours till i flip it and glue the "jut out" back to the right side of the "jut out" that is attached to the fuge back waiting for glue to dry :rolleyes1: Lunchbucket

only have the left side to glue to the back and glue the bottom on
Nick - us SD reefers are a unique bunch Travis - for the most part no weights were used. just the weight of the piece. Zephrant and a few others have said that you really don't need weights on it. but i did use the weight of books for a few of the last pieces (especially that last pic) and the seams turn ou nicer. it forces all the air out w/ all the weight. ideally i would use wiegh on every joint but due to the "f"ed up design it wasn't possible. heck i'm just happy it is going together this easy Chrisrush - i'm on the verge of a split. this sump will give me a fuge and w/ the big ReefMania Ca Rx gone and a smaller Deltec PF601 in place i'll have more stand room so this upgrade will make it more efficient. also i'm gonna try to gravity feed the skimmer Nick - no thong wearing to any PETA convention. i'd be wearing my arse kicking boots though Lunchbucket

That looks really good. I hate mistakes, but they happen. It'll be fine. Gluing the base on will be quite a project with #3. I would focus on the outer borders first, and then do all the internal bottom seams later.
In that situation, I put some newspaper under the project to press the center upwards against the bottom edge of all internal walls. Run the Weld-On on those until they are good. Then put put weights at the four corners to evenly press down. You can put a weight on top of the refugium corners perhaps, but it doesn't have to be a lot of weight. Just enough to get good seams.
