Skimmer for 75g
I had posted on this forum last week regarding which skimmer was suggested for a 75g with a price range of $150-250. I have decided that the skimmer is probably one of the most important parts of the tank and that I should budget more money for the purchase. I plan to keep some LPS, inverts, and livestock (6-8 smaller fish???) in this tank. If I were to say I was trying to keep it under $400, what would be the suggestion? I want it to be pretty quiet, and it will be an in sump skimmer. Any suggestions, greatly appreciated! You guys have all been wonderful with suggestions!

Modded Octopus. $200 and will skim like a beast when some simple mods are made.

ER RS100, octo150, extreme octo 150, MSX160, ASM 3x, 4x, Tunze 9010, bermuda 3c, ATI 160 any of the above would work well. The MSX 160 just came out and its pulling a steady 30scfh which is pretty dang good for that size of skimmer at under 30watts. For 300bux its going to be tough to beat.

I think Luke33 pretty much broke it down. Those skimmers work really well especially for the prices. Some simple mods and you can have a skimmer comparable to higher end models imo.

My problem is that I'm not sure what mods and how to do them...this will be my first skimmer.

I'm running a DAS EX-1 on my 75 and feel it would be very hard to beat for right around that $300 mark.

Luke33, do you own the msx160? If so, did you have to do any mods to it to get the readings you stated above?

Dedex, i'm getting the msx200 delivered tomorrow. As for the mods, there aren't any mods to do to them. The 160 pulls 30scfh as it seems to be restricted and the 200's pull 50scfh. The only mods you may need to do is redo the meshmod or trim it down. The sicce pump's are the trickiest pump's ive dealt with in my day, but well worth the trouble imo.
