snorkeling in Tahiti

I am going to Tahiti at the end of the month, was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for me this will be my first time and I am really looking forward to it...I am staying on Bora Bora.....the hotel says they supply snorkeling gear didn't know if I should trust the gear they supply or not???....also any equipment suggestions that don't normally get mentioned that I should have?? (hope that made sense) Anyway...I would appreciate any words of advice...I have read the book diving and snorkeling for dummies...but wanted to ask people that have been and done that to see if there is anything else.....

thanks,

Steve
