Marineland Penguin Pump

What would cause the magnet on the impeller to swell up and get stuck in the pump? I wiggled the impeller and I was able to get it free. Is it a defect in the magnet?
I contacted Marineland and they were very helpful. I told them I would probably only need a new impeller, but they said they would send a brand new pump to me. Now this is customer service. They stood by their product and sent a new pump out very fast. This may not be very special, but I was impressed on how easy it went and their good customer service. The whole thing went very smooth.
