I took this photo on a day when I left the Cayman Islands in the morning (85 degrees) and returned home that afternoon to blow two feet of snow out of my driveway (wind chill of -90 degrees.)

A 175 degree difference. I love the North.

The funny thing is seeing people in Hawaii all bundled up when it is 65 outside.

Yes, I got my luggage. Luckily I flew into a small airport 45 miles from me, so I killed an hour or so getting gas and eating, and my luggage came on the next flight.

Traveling during the holidays is not a good idea. There were so many cancelled flights, and each of my flights were overbooked. I was offered the chance to travel a day later for a $300 travel voucher, but it wasn't worth it. I didn't want to take the risk of being stuck in an airport for a week. One lady I talked to at 11:00 PM at Honolulu airport had been there since early in the morning. Her original flight was cancelled, so she had to stay at the airport on "standby" hoping she could get on a later flight. She finally got on the one I was on at 11:00 pm. She was not a happy camper.

Cancelled flights were very common in Kodiak. It didn't matter if it was during the holidays, bad weather would cancel a ton of them and you had to wait forever for it to clear out. Fortunatley the airport there is only about 20 minutes away from the farthest homes (other than those out in Chiniak and Pasagshak, which are a ways out of the main town).
