angels and aiptasia?

A LFS guy was trying to sell my mom a queen angel bc he said it would eat aiptasia. I have never even heard of angels eating it before. Is this guy for real or is he just trying to take advantage of my mom's inexperience. I want to get a butterfly if this guy is pulling my chain, anyone have recommendations?

Hi Shark,

He's a yanking it and a Queen Angel is a little too much fish for a tank your size. Angels mainly dine on sponges and will attack some corals. They pretty pretty much leave anemones, such as Aiptasia alone.

There are some unsupported rumors that Copperbanded Butterflies will eat Aips but they are unsupported. Some decorative shrimp will attack them and that is supposed to include the peppermints you already have. The Berghia Nudibranch is the only proven biological control that I know of.

Shooting them up with KW paste or vinegar works every time if they are not too numerous.

thanks, i have a ton though! They are taking over the tank. I need something that will clear them out. From what i have researched, copperbands are the best shot. Do you think a butterfly would be worth a try or should i just buy 10 more peppermints?

Gee Land,

I've never tried to control them with a Butterfly so I can't really say. If you plan on keeping corals the Butterfly may also become a problem.
