Newbie - How and what do I feed Zoas?

Hi all,

I've finally got my tank right and decided to buy a piece of coral with green and brown Zoanthids...about 25-30 in a bunch.

How do I feed them?
What should I feed them?
Will brine shrimp I feed my clowns do?

you can feed them phytoplankton, Cyclop, but not need. and yes some do grow better when feed. for most zoa good lighting is their main food source.

Palys and protopalys are the ones that could be fed more like mysis shrimp, pellets and cyclopeeze. For some zoos I used to feed phyto that I use to grow in my garage.

I'm not sure if they have what I need at my LFS. Will Brine Shrimp ala cream work? LOL

Brine Shrimp maybe too big, baby Brine Shrimp , Brine Shrimp eggs or Cyclop mixed in plankton. but i would go planton first.

we might have confused you with talking about the other type of polys. those are zoanthids and light is their main food source.

however, i feed my zoanthids plankton mix with Cyclop and turkey blast the zoa with the mixure. and i do food my polys and proto with Brine Shrimp but they have bigger mouths.

BTW, adult brine shrimp is pretty much non-nutritious--97% water. Your clowns need a better diet than that.

Talking

When I started getting zoas I fed them phytoplankton but it would always seem to kick up my nitrates. Now I just count on my lighting and they are doing great. have not fed for several months.
good luck with them!

BTW navychief, for future reference that is a "colony" of zoanthids not a "bunch"
