Blue Jaw Triggerfish
Okay, so I am looking at overhauling my tank from a fish only tank to a reef tank. However, I will not be able to add corals in until the winter season (student). Throughout all my time in saltwater, I have been fascinated with triggerfish. I also have found out with owning many of them, that they are tremendous at making a HUGE MESS. So, heres the thing. I have one trigger left, a big blue line trigger, and I am having trouble letting him go right now because I am like connected at the hip with him. But, I know in the near future, he has to go if I ever want my rock and the rest of my tank to get color and actually look good. So, a fish that interests me is the Blue Jaw trigger. I would love to add a pair if i could. Can you go out and buy a random male and female? or do you have to order them in together? And what are the odds that they would actually reproduce? If you have owned a pair or even one i would love to hear your experiences. Thanks

They usually do fine if you just add a male and a female. Most people who have pairs don't buy them as such. You actually don't even have to add them at the same time, but I think things are easier if you do.
The odds of them spawning are approximately 0. Dave

If you like ordering fish online here is one of the best blue jaw specimens I've ever seen. He is very stunning.

I have a pair in my mixed reef and absolutely love them. I bought them together, but I do know that the store I got them from "just placed them together". It worked though. I would say that they are a mated pair yet as I have yet to see them spawn, but they rarely leave each others side for very long. Tank is also full of inverts cleaner shrimp etc... and never bothered anything. Hope this helps. good luck.
