Red stuff on sand...

I'm having a problem with a red film covering the sand. It appears almost excusivley in the front of the tank where circulation is best. It's not accumulating on the live rock like the slime (I've had that.) I do weekly water changes of about 15%. After vacuuming it looks good but reappears in two to three days. I've seen something about this before but can't find it again...help greatly appreciated....

I used to quite a bit. I've been a member since 2003. I haven't been there in a while. My 600RR is a dedicated race bike now and it doesn't see the street. I've crashed and taken it apart so many times now I can practically do it in my sleep.

Red Slime Algae. That stuff is a real pain to get rid of. Try Red Slime Remover made by UltraLife Reef Products.

+1 on the Red Slime Remover made by UltraLife Reef. i've had a cyano bacteria break out a few months back and their product got rid of it in a few days. haven't seen it come back since.

Sounds like Cyano. I've had that problem too. It's quite normal in new tanks. I've used the red slime remover as well...along with a turkey baster to blow the stuff off and scoop it out with a net. I know some people have said it's not good to use the red slime remover in a new tank. I've used it 3 times or so and have had only positive results.
