OT Poll- Where do you buy your dog/cat food?

Gathering info.

Looking for trends - choose the one that most closely applies most of the time.

Thanks!

I have a cat with a glass stomach: she can't tolerate corn, corn products, chicken meal [they chop up the whole chicken---with corn in its gut]---chicken byproducts, etc. Now, whoever thought that a cat, native to the Nile and the Asian Mekong regions, should like American Maize, or even be able to digest it, also believes in the tooth fairy. Many cats that heave frequently are allergic to corn. Mine [my avatar] simply roundtrips it instantly and goes into respiratory distress.
Only one fairly available [and palatable] cat food utterly avoids corn: Nature's Balance. Petco sells it. So while I'd normally do most anything to avoid Petco, for its practices in handling animals, I have no choice.

Are you saying that hobbyists (and RC Members) are dishonest by nature?

I like the privately owned pet store by my house. The one I use here doesn't sell any animals and they take in homeless cats for adoption. They usually have two or three in the store that are fully vetted and waiting for homes. The people who work there are really nice, familiar faces who enjoy their jobs. They will special order stuff if I ask nicely.

We had a petco open up not too far from the local shop. So far they are still around and I am so glad.

I order online because all that's sold locally is Science Diet (Hill's) at both vets and then the standard grocery store brands. Cost me about $60-$70 for the dog, cat and ferrets, plus $20 worth of decent ferret food I can get locally.

Good thing that there is something called a "Margin of Error" then
It is used to sort of "correct" deliberate (or unconscious), lying or false reporting by respondents, among other things, like a poorly worded, or loaded poll, which I will freely admit that my polls may be - I'm not a statistician, but a marine hobbyist who is trying to answer a few basic questions by sampling my fellow hobbyist.

Thankfully, most don't have the ability to purposefully try to skew the numbers like you can DC, whether they are liars or "just goofy"...

I fed my cats Iams for years until the big pet food scare. That got me looking into whats in what. I ended up buying a better quality dry food for less money. My cats are happier, healthier, eat less, and shed less. I think the name is "Chicken Soup".

We get ours from the feed store. The feed stores here also double as pet stores. We don't have a store solely dedicated to pets, unless you count cows horses and chickens as pets.

I voted, but after reading your responses to Debi I'm beginning to wonder about your intent.

Since you started it, and you said you are "looking for trends", I do believe we are owed an explanation as to WHAT precisely you are wanting this information for.

You'll find you get less "goofy" responses if you state your point from the beginning instead of putting out an extremely vague question with no explanation as to why you are looking for trends and what exactly you want the info for.

So let's have it....what's the point of all this....unless, of course, you really want us to shoot that margin of error all to heck. This is the Lounge after all and good people like Debi and BrianD get bored real easy and like to mess with polls.

LOL, given the amount of polls he's started, I'd say he's starting a pet store.

I'm trying to gather some poll data for a thing I'm working on. I'm not a statistician, so these aren't going to be like Gallup Polls or anything, I'm just looking for some trends, based on what my fellow hobbyists have to say, and not what someone thinks or assumes to be true. Reefers often complain that they aren't heard by the industry - this might be your chance to make a statement, or correct industry assumptions.

I know that in forum polls the numbers can be skewed for various reasons, so a larger margin of error has to be calculated, but it might give people an idea of what we have to say, and how we interact with our hobby.

Plus, I'm a curious monkey by nature.

Sorry if my being curious about what my fellow reefer thinks, does and wants offends anyone, but I thought that was sort of the point of a forum?

And I answered DC the way I did because it just seems unsportsmanlike to use a ADMIN function to skew a poll, just because they can...

And I should add that when DC said people lie in polls, I was asking if she really believed that hobbyists or RC members in particular where, in her experience as a MOD here, more likely to misrepresent in a poll then the average person would be.
If she did (does), then the "margin for error" will need to take that into effect as well as the normal figures used when generating stats...
