I can cut a piece of my capnella easily, but getting it out of the tank is going to be impractical due to its size. Python, will cutting a smaller (2-3") piece in a 220 gal tank cause that much havoc?.

strangelove,I don't want to risk your coral or your tank , so don't worry about it.There will be enough other corals here that I want that I can always get one later

My 8 year old daughter wants to know if anyone is bringing any kids?

Strangelove,

A better safer way is to take a plastic zip tie and circle it around the part of the coral you want to remove. Cinch it tight to the coral without putting all that much pressure on it. Every day cinch it a little more and eventually the coral will drop off the frag. By gently cutting it this way, the coral will feel more like it is attaching to another substrate like rock.

You will not get this done by trade time, but in the future you can do this ahead of time and sell, trade or give away your frag.

I used to cut my Colt coral with clean scissors right in my main tank. It worked well many times. The last time I did it the whole beachball sized colony withered to nothing in two days. The only good thing was that there was nothing else in my tank at the time.

Best of luck Rob

Strangelove,

I'd heed the previous advice. They know alot more about corals than I do. With that said, COULD you do it? Sure, probably wouldn't hurt your tank. But certainly not worth the risk. Rob's trick will work nicely, I've had xenia react the same way in my tank.

Rob,

I am bringing you the purple plating monti. I hope you are saving me a piece of the purple rim! I do have some green with lavander rim, but it is still too small to frag.

I also have a few other gems I forgot about for those who will be "shopping". I have a 6-7" green plating monti that I will bring and some bushy acro frags the size of small colonies.

Adam

Hey Adam - I'm all about that green plating monti. Can you email me a ballpark so I can bring enough cash? (Assuming I can afford it)

Hey everybody, thanks for coming and making it a great frag swap. I know Rich(Deerhunter) is happy as his tank is stocked up. I hope you all had fun, and left with some knew knowledge and corals or clams.

Looking forward to doing it again, Rob

Thanks everyone for making my first frag trade a great experience. I loaded up on great pieces of coral and thank you all for your knowlege and generosity. It was definately worth the drive from Cleveland! Also thanks to Rich for being a great host. Good luck to all and hope to do this again soon.

well I'm glad everyone had a good time.I know I did. There ended up being a lot more people and corals than I expected, and that was great.I think we should try this again in the spring. All the corals from this meet should be big enough to frag by then.

For the people who couldn't make it,all I can say is you missed a good one.Maybe you can make the next one,

Thanks again, Rich

Tank leak sale

The time limit is ASAP (As soon as possible). The tank itself is not leaking, I had an overflow onto the floor in my apartment, which went downstairs. I promised if this happened again I would stop keeping fish.

Hi all,

I'm reviving this old topic to invite all you W. Pa'ers to the next PMAS meeting.

Larry Jackson will be speaking. He is always a great speaker, and is an avid diver and underwater photographer so he always has some amazing eye candy.

The meeting is Saturday, January 18th at 6:00 pm at the Palace Inn just off the turnpike in Monroeville.

Anyone is welcome to come as a guest, but we certainly hope to convince you to join. This years line up is shaping up to be a great one. Dr. Rob Toonen, Dr. Gisele Muller-Parker, Morgan Lidster and Kelly Jedlicki are among some of our distinguished up coming speakers.

Go to www.pmas.org for more details and a map.

Adam

I took about 40 frags last time and it took me 3 hours to bag them and get ready.

That'd be fine by me, but do you think you have the room? It will be real crowded if 20 people show up...
