How long have you had the hog? I have had mine for about 10months and his color is now more brick red than candy cane red. Was wondering if it's just mine, or perhaps a dietary thing etc. It may also have something to do with my lighting, or the tankmates he has.

Just curious if you or anyone else has experience with these guys over a period of time...

I really hope you didn't pay the premium black tang price for that tang because that is definately a scopas tang. Do a google search on both black tangs and scopas tangs and you'll see the difference. Black tangs have a long nose and do not fade in color from front to back. (would not be caused by a flash as it fades like a scopas and the whole fish isn't like that) Don't mean to be rude, rather just looking out. If you paid the price on that you need to get your money back! Regardless that is a gorgeous scopas though, one of the best I have seen.

LOL no worries here.

I dunno will wait and see in fact in the past I've gotten some "juvis" that look like scopas.

I've been around and 3 other guys that have been doing this for over 30 years each stated the same I dunno YET.

Unfortunately I've not yet been able to take a close look at him( lights out when I come home) and had my doubts but still believe that the snout and green hue are there.

He came in with 3 other truly gorgeous BT's but his buddies where way to big for me.

Will c BTW thanks for looking out - the whole situation was addressed at hello so no worries here.

Hey Brett no worries man although I think this is the winner.,

black tangs when juvies look nothing like scopas. They are 100% black (no lines, no fading) when they hit the 5-7" range theyget that white line on top below the dorsal and may start to fade a little. I like scopas tangs

what do you mean " no worries here"??? the man collects fish for a living. As many times as you've been around, and or had years of experience, I think he's got you beat. You can keep praying that that nose is going to be there, but he's not pinocchio, and it's not going to grow. As stated before juvenile black tangs are black tangs.

also you might have a hybrid or something. Black tangs dont have lines. Juvis or not. As zmureon mentioned.
