wow this is really cool I always wondered if it would be ok to do that with my phosban reactor. but I really like the setup and aqua scaping you have going here.

Might want to consider hose clamps on all of those hose barb fittings. A friend just lost a lot of stuff in his propagation facility because of a hose that came off of a hose barb fitting on a phosphate reactor. Of course, while he was out of town. I too have been victim of a hose barb fitting - while I was out of town.

"I ofcoarse will keep the whole open for a while and check to see if there is any leaks before closing it."

nyvp,
You might want to contact the tank manufacturer and see if the tank is rated for being full without the support of the earth around it. Some of them will crack or blow without being supported. Likewise, you may need to fill the tank as you fill the hole to prevent the earth from crushing it.

there is a difference between water storage tanks that you see on trucks and in lfs's and the ones that are made for in the earth. You are correct you can not put the storage ones in the earth because they squish. The ones for the earth are called cisterns.

look on bottom of the page. you will see what I'm talking about.

Long over due update:
Tank is doing great. I took off doing adding or doing anything on the tank for the past 60 days to try and let the bio system catch up. I forget that the tank is still less then a year old.
Another reason for no updates is my son ... god bless him figured that if we take pictures of the fish... he would give my digital camera to the fish and let them take a picture of us ..... Good news is The camera should be back from the shop in 2 weeks

These pics are from a 35m disposible so bare with

Cucumber

Happy Family

will update again when my camera is back

your asking other then my son trying to pop off the hoses
ya other then that no problems so far

Fish list as of today(36):
Tangs:
1-Show Size Male Naso
1-L Blonde Naso
1-XL Red Sea Sailfin
1-M Mimic
1-M Orange Shoulder
1-M Atlantic Blue

Adding Tomorrow:
3-M Yellow Tangs
3-M Purple Tangs

Searching for a Dussumier Tang

11-lyretail Anthias
6-Caraberry Anthias

Next month adding a box(14) Bartletts

4-Blue/Green Chromis
4-Purple Chromis
Later this month:
adding 8 more 4 of each Chromis

4-Pajama Cardinals

1-Diamond Watchman Goby
1-Bullet Goby

Then I think a few odd wrasses and I'm done on fish.
Goal is prob close to 75 ish of which 13 are Tangs

Do I hear sirens

I think I can get away with more fish for three reasons :
1- I have a very large Volume of water for tank size 1k atm and 2k when cistern goes in
2- The way my rock work is set up in my tank is I have a 26' square racetrack around my tank for the fish to swim around (120x120x36x36) and a lot of open rocks for fish to hide.
3- I have the MOTHER of all skimmers, a SPAZZ Volcano which should help with the XL show Size Tang POOP load I will have.

Hope that helps.

great setup, I been checking out your system from the beginning and others when I was getting my order ready. all I can say that's a lot of fish crap, but with enormous skimmer should do the job, I don't think I will be putting that much fish in my system since I will have mainly sps, and some lps with fish...

I think you are doing very well yourself! I hope you find the Dussumier Tang. They are sweet. Wish I had one. So any thoughts on how you will keep all those anthias well fed? That's a lot of mouths to feed, and they require (so I am told) frequent feeding. I have stayed away from them for that reason.

I see your cucumber has taken up a position exactly like mine has. Very interesting coincidence. It is almost positioned like it needs light. Mine tends to sleep during the day but does respond to tank feeding. I love watching it stuff it's "fingers" into its mouth one-by-one.

I sure would like to know how your camera will be working again after falling in the tank! I dropped my cell phone in mine but I bathed it in alcohol. Still works.

BTW, the ONLY hose barb fittings I have in my system are for my air pump. I do not trust them to hold water under any kind of pressure. And I don't like having metal clamps in the system either. Even SS tend to rust over time unless you get 316 which is hard to find.

Nice tank

Be careful with that giant cup mushroom in the picture with the Atlantic blue tang, as he is capable of eating some fish, I have seen one eat a yellow tang, and yours looks even bigger. If you see him release some strings through his mouth, that is the lure.

Well keep a close eye on him, feeding it will help I'm sure, but it still makes me nervous, your large fish are safe but the small-medium curious ones.....

I had one smaller than yours about 8 years ago that ate a
yellow tang
neon dottyback
pygmy angel
damsel
and whatever else i don't remember.

I figured it out because the next day they release a slime which seems to be the left overs to put it nicely, and I noticed mine had a bright yellow slime........ and no YT.
