yasha haze goby pair
Someone sold me what was suppose to be a "pair" of yasha haze gobies, but now that they are in the tank, all they ever do is chase each other around nipping, and biting. At one point, one even locked its jaws around the other's mouth and started to drag it around.
I seperated the two for now, but just wondering - Did I get two of the same sex gobies? Is that the reason for the aggression? My tank is 55g - Should I take one out or would they eventually work it out between the two

i have one and i bought it as a pair with a pistol shrimp. i was told the shrimp would pair up with the gobie but it didn't for over 3 weeks then one day they paired up. maybe you should put a pistol shrimp in ther and the 2 gobies will pair up with him. if you want i know a really good way you can maek them pair up. pm me if you would like to know how to. happy hoildays

I am not an expert, but from some of the books I've read, if the gobies lock jaws like that, it usually means they are probably the same sex. Also, again this is from reading- not personal experience, this usually indicates that they are the same sex.
Best of luck, let us know how it goes... |

In trying to pair twinspot gobies, that is exactly how they behave when you accidentally put 2 males together.
We can't import many gobies to this country, which limits my experience in many species. FW

Hey Kigs,
Based on my experience, I encountered the exact same thing. But I always had one and I attempted to introduce another one, hoping it would pair up and once the 2 noticed each other, then chased each other around. I originally thought, ok maybe they'll get along later. But soon enough, I saw them locking jaws as well and they wouldn't let go for the longest time. I had to break them up with a shish-ka-bob stick So yea, I would say the chances of both of those yasha gobies are the same sex. Also, I could be wrong, but if you look at the fin they use to perch with, if part of that is black and the other yasha is not basically all clear, then you have a pair. Although I don't know which is which. Maybe someone else knows. Btw, where they together in the same tank/compartment at the LFS? |
