What do you feed..

What can you use to feed an octo? does it have to be live crabs? what types of crabs? iv heard some people going to the store and buying fish, shrimp, scallops, ect and feeding them dead food. what do you look for out of the supermarket that is ok to feed them? will they eat anything else? going to the LFS can get expensive for food after awhile...

lol you don't have to feed just live crabs. They will also eat hermits, and most will accept frozen foods readily. You can also get like 5 or 10 fiddler crabs online for like $15 including shipping (Though I don't remember the name of the site....) and fiddlers are a fine food. They are technically brackish but are a fine enough food for such a short lived animal (You hardly have to worry about long term effects with octopi). If you feed fiddler crabs you might want to remove its large claw just in case. Fiddlers can survive a few weeks in saltwater. Also SW ghost shrimp (sold by the same site I mentioned earleir, hope you can find it) are a great food.
