i am at a loss

For some reason my main pump lost suction last night. So needless to say i had a bunch of water on the floor this morn. I dont know why it lost the suction the pump was running and it is a downword flow to the pump. So there is always water flowing to the pump. Anyway i got the water pumping again, but now it pumps tons of air into the tank. There is now reason i can find for all the bubbles. I took my pump off my closed loop and replaced the main pump with it and it is doing the same thing. It pumps so much air into the tank you cant see a thing. any ideas?

There is a leak on the suction side of the plumbing someplace.

Well thats what i thought but every thing is tight and has o rings. i guess i can recheck it all.

Do you have a small compressor? Plug the end and put it under pressure or reverse your pump and see if the water squirts out from a joint or fitting.

I had a similar problem with my closed loop. The leak wasn't quite as bad but it did result in air bubbles. I never found it. I ended up taking apart my closed loop and redoing every fitting with silicon; took me 8 hours or so and although it helped, it didn't completely solve the problem. I finally realised that the o-ring on the pump was no longer sealing perfectly and was letting air in. I gave up, removed the loop and bought a tunze 6100 for water flow. I use the closed loop now in a water change setup.
