Christmas comes early to Montana

elk season has been extended 2 weeks!

http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/elkseasonextended.html

While the general 2007 big game hunting season will end on Sunday, Nov. 25, hunting for elk will continue in many areas for up to an additional two weeks to reduce elk populations in several hunting districts. The season will run Nov. 26 through Dec. 9. The FWP Commission, however, can close any extended season in any hunting district on 24-hour notice. All other hunting regulations apply during the extended season, including the need to have permission to hunt on private land. Some Block Management Areas may not be open for the extended season. Hunters are urged to contact the regional FWP office to determine whether or not a BMA is open for hunting elk during the season extension.

Last time I went through Thompson falls (way west) The Elk were like seagulls at a dump, about time they extend the season.

Wow! Montana went on-line for ALS?! Cool! That mail-in system was a PITA. Maybe next year again.

So, your guys doing like Minnesota? Here they don't admit they mis-managed the herd, they managed it so well there is now an abundance of white tail. We've gone from 1 deer bucks only with limited drawing for does, to permits in 4 packs only one of which can be a buck.

Jay, somewhere between 2 and 2 1/2 weeks of hunting season this year were unseasonably warm (mid 50's) that fact alone kept the harvest numbers down.
yea they do such a good managment job that the elk populations are at near record levels, but I give them credit for monitoring harvest counts & extending the season promptly, rather than doing a study, taking a poll, hiring a consultant, etc, etc...

and I'm out the door in a few minutes to go do my part for population control

Pipe bomb found in deer carcass
By ANGELA BRANDT of the Helena Independent Record

The Lewis and Clark County Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team helped dismantle a pipe bomb found in a deer carcass west of Ennis Thursday.

After receiving a request for mutual aid from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office about noon, the team responded to a field about two miles west of Ennis. They located the deer with a homemade pipe bomb sticking out of its abdomen, according to Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Cheryl Liedle.

“This was a new experience for us,” Liedle said. “I’ve never heard of anything like this before.”

The deer was found by a ranch hand on private property.

Madison County Sheriff Dave Schenk said the incident is under investigation. There is no known motive.

I have a pretty darned nice photo of me & this buck

Not wanting to run afoul of Brians "hunting season may be upon us, but" warning, I assume that the following is appropriate:
if any members wish to see the picture, pm the request to me and I will pm you a photobucket link, if you're bothered or offended by any such photo, please do not request to see it
thanks

148 6/8 is the official score

left G 4 was broken

eyeguards were abnormally short

if they would have been typical length and in proportion to everything else & the added length of the broken tine he would have scored over 160, that would have put him in the record book!
