ich i think

this morning woke up to powder blue tang with ich. i put some quick cure in tank. what else can i do? help!!! thanks

I also am having a problem with my tang and ich. The problem also is I cannot catch it in my 125 without breaking the entire tank down. He is not showing signs of not eating but has the white spots and is swimming around the tank like a nut. This is my first tang and I got him on Saturday so this is most likely brought on by the stress of the new tank. Any suggestions of treating the tang if I cannot get him out of the tank...I'll keep trying to catch him but I don't want to stress him out anymore.

If he's important, quarantine and hyposalinity.

e.g. less than normal salinity.

Also, a freshwater dip can often rid you of the saltwater ich but it's helluva stressful.

Best is to QT in a hospital tank. But give it some time as well. Soak food in Garlic and feed. Some times, cleaner shrimp will help delete some of the parasites as well.

With time and acclimation, it may subside...but never go away if another fish is stressed.

I read some articles where Phd's suggested that all marine tanks had ich...who knows. But it's about as common as the common cold

Well he is new to the tank so he's not the most important fish in my tank but I hate to see any fish suffer and I would really hate it to spread to my other fish. I watched this fish for over a week in the LFS and he ate, etc but showed no signs of ich. I'm guessing its just the stress from being in a new tank. I'm going to call my LFS tomorrow to see what they recommend or maybe to see if I can borrow their fish trap again since I spent the last 2 hours moving my LR around and I still couldn't catch him. Thanks for all the help.

My Powder Blue tang always has at least a little Ich no matter what. They are Ich magnets. If it's just a bunch of tiny white specks, you shouldn't be too worried and breaking the tank apart to get him out may just stress out all your other fish. I try to keep the salinity around .022 when he looks a little worse than usual and he clears up a lot. If you do drop the salinity, keep an eye on your inverts. When in doubt, Qt is still the best way to go. I just think that's how Powder Blues are all of the time. Ich cures don't work!!! Good luck.
