My first tank (with pic)

A couple weeks ago i posted a large thread about me getting a FW 55 gal tank and maybe in the future getting a SW tank. Well today i skiped the FW part and got my first SW tank, a AquaPod 24 gal. Any one know why there are those lines on the tank there airbubbles and theres sand on the lines.

will do, also i just turned on the filter and its working fine its just theres foam at the top with a lit of dirt in it, will all this get cleaned?

Welcome to the hobby!

When you were filling it up, the water surface probably had some sand scum, and it stuck until you filled it up again. Try wiping it.

I have 2 nano tanks, I would remove all bioballs/filtration media. If your tank has 3 compartments, in the first (carbon cartridge filtration) you should put lots of live rock rubble.

In the second (bioball area) you should cut out the black background behind, mount a light, and set up a refugium with chaeto/caulerpa.

In the third compartment with the return pump you can drop a bag of activated carbon to pull yellow organics out of your water.

i have an 24g aquapod also it works real nice. ya i would diffenetly put carbon right by the blue sponges it keeps the water nice and clear also. welcome to the hobby and enjoy!

this my sound dumb but im a noob so i'll ask it, does the heater go on and off automatically or do u have to unplug it every now and then, and how do i get my water temp down its staying steady at 84.5, do you think this is an okay water temp for a 24 gal? Right now i have the lid open and the heater on, im a little worried whether or not to keep it plugged in or off till the water temp decreases?

Your heater will turn on and off automatically. You do not need to umplug it. It sounds like your temperature setting is too high. Somewhere on it (usually on the top end) there will be a knob to turn. You will need to turn yours counter clockwise a bit to lower the temperature setting.

Things are looking good. I have a 24 gal AP, too, and when I was filling mine, it had the same lines and foamy scum in the back. I had to do some hefty cleaning at first to get all the scum out.

As for the heater, I have never needed a heater in my tank. Even with the cooling fan, the lights are pretty hot. In the winter, my house temp stays around 68 degrees, but my tank temp doesn't drop below 76-77 degrees. In the summer, when my house temp gets up to 76-77, I have a difficult time keeping my tank temp from getting too high. Most nano-reefers that I have talked to complain of too high temps.
